Nomisma Histamenon is the full scientific name of the coin depicted here, which was a development of the traditional Byzantine gold coin, the solidus. The coin shown here was minted in 1067 under the Empress Eudocia, who ruled on behalf of her sons Michael, Andronikos and Constantinus. The reverse depicts the empress holding a scepter studded with precious stones, between her sons Michael and Constantinus.
