One-Man workshop of the early 18th century.

In the later middle ages machines slowly took over the technology to strike coins. One early simple machine was the rotary press.

Another new method developed in the middle of the 16th century was to use horse power.

Later came the one man workshop. In comparison to the earlier machines it was much smaller and could be worked by power of one man.

With this machine the dies were removable.

The advantage was that if a die would be damaged only one stamp would have to be replaced and not the whole stamping machine. Also an exact fit was reached with this construction. The disadvantage was that the coins never came out exactly round or flat
