Designed by Gauchat, The holy Martin Divides his Coat in Two.

The second world war and the wear on the old notes from Hodler and Burnand allowed an opportunity to return back to a design "series" after using notes of individual designs not part of a design series.

For the first time notes would be designed by graphic artists and not by painters.

The notes from Gauchat with the four allegorical figures are well known: The harvest, the fountain as symbol of rebirth, death and lovingness.

"The Holy Martin", symbol of lovingness is for many the most impressive of all Swiss bank notes.
