For its first bank note series the National Bank of Switzerland commissioned two greats from the world of art:
Ferdinand Hodler (the painter of the well-known and heroic "Marignano" paintings) and from Waadtland, Eugene Burnand. Their illustrations of the agricultural and industrial working world circulated in 1911/12.

An interesting fact about the Helvetias:
Hodler illustrated the 100 frank note with a Helvetia modelled after his own wife. His mistress Valentine Gode Darel modelled for the other Helvetia. The original Helvetia vanished without a trace.
