Naxos on Sicily, a city lying between Catania and Acireale on
the present day peninsula of Capo Schiso. This is the earliest coin
of the series, about 525 BC, with a double image. That is a convex
image on the obverse and the reverse. On the obverse, the head of
the bearded Dionysos with a wreath of vine-leaves, on the reverse
there is a vine-tendril with a cluster of grapes, two leaves and
the inscription NAXION.
