47: Amphipolis, Macedonia. Tetradrachm around 355 BC

A picture made by Hirmer. On the reverse is a torch. The expression in the eyes is impressive. The luxurious hair-style with a laurel wreath clearly states: "I am Apollo." There is a series of outstanding dies made by Amphipolis, but, for me this one is among the best. It is by no means less important than the Apollo from Klazomenai by Theodotos 360 BC, number 44.
