Germanic tremisses from the 5th century are not rare, yet too little is known about them to always be sure where and by whom they were struck. This one copies a coin of the Roman emperor Theodosius II (408-450). As a rule, the minters restriking the coins tried to keep them up to date by using the name of the ruling emperor. In this way, it was hoped that the new mintages would be accepted as well as those coins introduced from the Roman Empire.
