This Zurich halbtaler from the year 1773 could be used to buy 1.694 "lot" of silver, i.e. 100 percent at the time to its issue. It contained almost the same amount of silver, namely 1.675 lot, i.e. 98.9 percent. This was also the price for almost four kilos of beef or 30 kilos of potatoes. That was the pay of a carpenter for two working days – at 14 hours of work per day, nota bene.
