The Ngama are a people belonging to the ethnic group of the Sara. They use kul, a symbolic form of a throwing knife, as currency. It is made from iron and served only as money. Kul was mainly used to buy food stuff, especially animals. Around the mid-20th century the price for a chicken was 1 to 2 kul; for a horse one had to give 100 to 300 kul. Besides kul served for ritual payments like for instance the bride price.
