The County of Tripoli, in today's Lebanon and Northern Syria, was the last of four Crusader states founded in the course of the First Crusade (1109). The fortress with the three towers and the double doors depicted on this gros is the Krac des Chevaliers. This fort still exists; it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
