Sicily, Syracuse, Tetradrachm

back

Sicily, Syracuse, Tetradrachm (obverse) Sicily, Syracuse, Tetradrachm (reverse)

This tetradrachm was minted during a time when the city was a republic (466-405 BC), and thus not under the rule of a tyrant. It bears the motifs typical for Syracuse: on the obverse a quadriga, a four horse-chariot, and on the reverse the head of the nymph Arethusa.
