The Slovenian tolar was introduced in 1991, after Slovenia became independent from Yugoslavia. The new currency then replaced the Yugoslavian dinar. In 2004, Slovenia joined the European Union and introduced the euro. The Slovenian euro cent-coins show a stork. It is the same motif featured on the 20 tolar-coins from 2003 to 2007.
