The Greek hero Heracles, wearing a lion’s skin, protects the personifications of Liberty and Equality. Liberty holds a lance with a hand taking an oath over the top. The hand symbolizes the oath on the republican constitution, while the lance shows that it had to be won martially. Equality carries a goniometer and dividers – the goniometer stands for integrity and the dividers for brotherliness and service of humanity.
