The graphic designer Pierre Gauchat was commissioned to design the higher denominations of the fifth series of Swiss banknotes. He chose symbolic subjects for his notes: the apple harvest on the back of the 50-franc note stands for the fecundity of Switzerland. The front shows a girl, garlanded with flowers and leaves.
