On this coin we see Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first head of state of independent Greece (1828-1831). Kapodistrias was assassinated in 1931. This resulted in power struggles that were finally ended, when Great Britain, France and Russia decided to turn Greece into a kingdom. The throne was given to the Bavarian prince Otto.
