The Future Forum invites participants to see the future not as fate, but as a space for shaping and creating. Together, we explore possible developments, discuss utopian visions, examine historical ideas about the future, and ask how imagination, knowledge, and responsibility can help us actively shape the world of tomorrow.
The Future of Finance
Money accompanies us throughout our lives. We earn it, spend it, save it, and trust that it will continue to function tomorrow. But where does money actually come from? Why does our economy seem to grow without end? And what do debt, digital money, gold, and cryptocurrencies mean for our future?
The five themes of this exhibition invite visitors to look at money from unexpected perspectives. They trace a path from the free cities of the Middle Ages to the debt challenges of modern financial systems, and from gold and cryptocurrencies to China’s digital yuan. Along the way, they raise a fundamental question: is the pressure for continuous economic growth built into the very structure of money itself?
Together, the texts and videos reveal that money is far more than a means of payment. It is a powerful social institution that shapes our present and helps determine our future.
The Great Currencies of History
The history of money stretches from the first minted coins of ancient Greece and Asia Minor to the currencies of the modern world. Every coin tells a story of power, trade, and trust, while also reflecting the cultural and political orders of its time.
Video Conversations
Together, we watch selected short films and videos on current issues related to money, the economy, and the future. These videos are not intended to provide definitive answers. Instead, they serve as starting points for discussion, encouraging participants to explore the questions they raise.
We learn by thinking together, exchanging ideas, asking questions, and engaging in open conversation. Different perspectives and personal experiences are explicitly welcome. The aim is not to promote a particular viewpoint, but to deepen our understanding of complex issues and discover new ways of thinking.
