Such talers were issued in Austria after 1751. They were called convention talers, as they were struck according to the 20-gulden weight standard, which many European issuers used. Convention talers were valued at 2 guldens, or 120 kreuzers. Austrian conventions talers from 1751 to 1806 can be identified by the St Andrew's cross at the end of the inscription.
This convetion taler bears the bust of the Archduchess Maria Theresa (1740-1780). It is not a Maria Theresa taler, however, a term that is only used for pieces struck after 1753.
