In June 1948, the German mark replaced the shattered reichsmark currency in Western Germany. This two pfennig-coin belonged to the very first coins minted in post-war Germany. At that time, the pfennig had still some purchasing power. And in the end, it was the stability of the pfennig that established new trust in the new German currency and therewith paved the way for the German economic miracle.
