Compared with the prewar year 1913, the prices for edibles and other consumer goods increased about 685 times until December 1922. Coins disappeared almost completely from circulation, since they were worth nothing. During 1923, inflation reached new dimensions. Prices increased about 1,000 percent during the first six month of the year. In December 1923, the consumer price index (basis: 1913 = 1) has reached an incredible level of 1,2 trillions – in figures: 1,200,000,000,000!
