The short-lived Chen Dynasty (557-589) in the South of China, too, perished as a result of family quarrels, fights for succession and a debauched way of life of its emperors. This coin was minted by its second to last emperor, Xuan Di (567-583). In the 11th year of his reign, Xuan Di started issuing a new denomination worth 6 shu. The new coins circulated concurrently with the old wu shus at 5 shu. However, since the new 6 shu-coins were not very popular, they were demonetized soon after Xuan Di's death. This is the reason why they are very rare today.
