Persian Empire, Achaemenids, Mysia, Lampsacus, Diobol (obverse) Persian Empire, Achaemenids, Mysia, Lampsacus, Diobol (reverse)

This diobol from Lampsacus bears a delightful double head on the obverse and the helmeted goddess Athena on the reverse. Two currencies existed in Lampsacus; one was in electron and mainly used for far trade, and the other one was in silver for local use. This silver coin thus circulated on the local market.
