Ernst Oppliger - Paper Cutter
As a child, cut-paper artist Ernst Oppliger liked to draw animals. But later on, as a student, he found the academic curriculum of art schools at the time was missing something. After studying lithography, he had a moment of genuine enlightenment: he saw a way to combine his artistic talent and his traditions. He had inherited a deep appreciation of Swiss folk art from his father and he realized he wanted to work in the venerable medium of paper-cutting. His success has been remarkable. His work has been exhibited, and sold, around the world, enabling him to live the life he always wanted—working in his studio in the town in eastern Switzerland where he was born. For Ernst Oppliger there is no greater measure of success.
