"Lat money" is market money, money thus that was intended for every day use. It comprised ingots from bronze and inferior silver. The bronze ingots were issued sincte the early 18th century in Luang Prabang, today a province in the north of Laos. Due to its form, these ingots are also called boat or canoe money. Their surface is smooth and does not bear stamps. The ingots occur in very different sizes and weights between 14 and 90 grams.
