Swiss Confederation, Reka-Card

Swiss Confederation, Reka-Card (obverse) Swiss Confederation, Reka-Card (reverse)

In 1939, the Swiss unions and the tourist association together founded the Swiss travel fund Reka. This non-profit organization was to build vacation villages, and thus to enable families with small incomes to vacation at a low price. Initially Reka issued travel stamps worth one franc, which employers offered at a discount. From those stamps evolved the Reka check. Public transportation and many hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, museums, recreational parks and zoos accept those checks today. In 2006, a Reka card came onto the market, a further development from the checks. The Reka card is a prepaid and purposive debit card that can be used at all Reka points of acceptance.
