The Abbasids constituted the third Islamic dynasty (750-1258). It was the heyday of the dinar. Islamic gold coins found easy acceptance and circulated as trading coins not only in the Mediterranean but also in remote regions such as the German lands and the British islands. They even appeared in Scandinavia and Russia, being brought there as booty by the Vikings.
