Russian gold coins at 5 rubles are called poluimperial, half imperial. This specimen shows the double-headed Russian eagle on the obverse, carrying the insignia of worldly power, a scepter and a globe. A crest depicting Saint George fighting the dragon covers the eagle's chest – George being one of the most venerated saints of the Russian Orthodox Church, and the patron saint of Moscow. The wings of the eagle bear more coats of arms. The reverse indicates the denomination, as well as the date and the place of coinage, St Petersburg.
