On this taler, a work of the engraver Franz Matzenkopf we see Archbishop Hieronymus Count of Colloredo, the very last reigning archbishop of Salzburg (1772-1803). In 1800, Count of Colloredo had to flee the French revolutionary army; in 1803, the Archbishopric Salzburg was secularized. Count of Colloredo, living in exile in Vienna at that time, renounced his claim for worldly power. He remained religious leader of the archbishopric, however.
